This page is focusing on interdisciplinary Image Science research & hosted by the Department for Image Science at Danube University Krems.
This page "Bildwissenschaft/Image Science" is reflecting interdisciplinary Image Science research. Bringing together various research fields of art history, media studies, philosophy, cognitive science, psychology, communication design and others, the task and problem at hand is to develop a conceptual frame and methods that support a real interdisciplinary discussion beyond institutional or personal dogmata.
Regarding considerably specific and clearly defined research problems and tools, there shouldn't be unnecessary conceptual borders between the various approaches and "traditions", let them be founded in art history (e.g. refering to Aby Warburg), visual (culture) studies or philosophy – here we can still find the quite classical and problematic opposition between phenomenological (e.g. refering to Merleau-Ponty) and symbol-theoretical (e.g. refering to Nelson Goodman) approaches.
This page is particularly aiming at a "border-crossing" discussion (beyond any institutional or other constraints), like the mentioned approaches to bring together phenomenological and symbol-theoretical aspects in philosophy. The founder of the group would be very glad about keeping this group free from useless polemical comments, contributions or discussions.
Beyond research contributions coming from an institutional background, contributions from artists and other fields of practice are welcome.
This page is also refering to the Master Programme "Image Science" at the Department for Image Science – Danube-University Krems (http://www.donau-uni.ac.at/en/department/bildwissenschaft/index.php), where such an interdisciplinary approach is promoted through offering a broad range of internationally renomated researchers, belonging to various research traditions.
