CellBank Graz
The CellBank Graz offers a wide range of services and support related to cell and tissue culture to all researchers at the Medical University of Graz. CellBank Graz is ISO 9001:2008 certified, thus ensuring state-of-the-art operating procedures with respect to the culturing and cry-preservation of cell lines and primary cells. The CellBank acts as a distributor for cell lines at the Medical University of Graz and as a secure repository for cell lines developed by local researchers. Our aim is to make it easier and cheaper for local researchers. New established and characterized cell lines (melanoma, glioblastoma, chordoma cell lines) are available for all researcher. As an additional service we offer Mycoplasma detection, STR analyses and virus detection.
Mycoplasma Testing
A common issue in cell culture is contamination. It is estimated that many established cell lines are contaminated by Mycoplasma. It is important for laboratories to check regulary their cell lines for Mycoplasma infection.
Identification Testing
A further common issue in cell culture is cross contamination with various cell lines. For the identification we use the Power-Plex® 16 system (Promega).
Virus Detection
Cell cultures may also be contaminated by other organisms like viruses. We offer the PCR detection of squirrel monkey retrovirus (SMRV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
Other Services:
Primary Cell Culture
Over the last three decades, protocols for primary cell cultures have been refined and have become an essential tool in biomedical research. Primary cells are taken directly from human or animal tissues, closely mimic the in vivo state and therefore generate more physiologically relevant data.
3D Cell Culture
3D Cell Culture techniques more closely mimic natural tissues and organs than cells growth in 2D. 2D cells grow adherently and form unnatural cell attachments, whereas in 3D cell culture cells form natural cell-to-cell contacts. We offer hanging drops and spheroid cultivation for 3D systems.
The XCelligence System
The RTCA DP Instrument expands the throughput and application options of the xCELLigence Real-Time Cell Analyzer (RTCA) portfolio. Featuring a dual-plate (DP) format, the instrument measures impedance-based signals in both cellular and cell invasion/migration (CIM) assays – without the use of exogenous labels. With outstanding application flexibility, the RTCA DP Instrument supports multiple users performing short-term and long-term experiments.
